Statistics show that fall still carries serious accident risks

You may have heard that car accident risks are highest in the summer, and this is true. When looking at fatalities, the summer causes the most auto accident deaths very consistently.

However, do not make the mistake of assuming that the fall is safe and you have little to worry about. The decline in deadly wrecks is not as significant as many people assume, and you still face greater risks in the fall than you do during the winter and the spring.

For instance, one study found that July and August were the deadliest months, with 116 car accident deaths every single day in the United States. For comparison, January was the safest month, with just 92 deaths per day. February clocked in with just 93 deaths. Even March only got to 96 fatalities per day, still not breaking 100.

In the fall, though, the risk is still very high. There were 113 daily fatalities in October, just three less than the peak of summer. There were 112 in September and 109 in November. Moving on toward winter, December still had 104 daily fatalities.

The summer months lead to more travel and higher accident rates, two major factors that contribute to high fatality totals. The fall may put an end to those summer trips as school sets in, but it is clear that it does not put an end to the danger you face on Iowa’s roadways.

If you get injured in a car accident or if a loved one passes away, make sure you are well aware of your legal rights to compensation.
