Postal workers in American face serious injury risks each day

On Behalf of | Mar 26, 2018 | Workers' Compensation

The United States Postal Service (USPS) has expressed pride in its work ethic for decades. Unfortunately, such dedication to service can also come with job-related injury risks. After all, the USPS does not cancel its service for inclement weather or any other adverse event. This means postal workers in Iowa face injury risks every day in their efforts to make sure citizens always receive their mail.

You probably already know that letter carriers often suffer from animal attacks, car accidents and slips-and-falls, but these are just a few USPS employee injury risks. Workers stationed in post offices around the nation also suffer from serious injuries.

Examples of illnesses and injuries inherent to the postal service include:

  • Skeletal and muscle disorders caused by heavy lifting and poor ergonomics
  • Exposure to anthrax or other hazardous substances
  • Job-related stress
  • Violent outbursts or assaults in the workplace
  • Repetitive motion injuries in postal workers assigned the same tasks on a daily basis
  • Respiratory conditions caused by routine exposure to fine particles of paper dust

The good news for injured postal employees is that they have the same right to workers’ compensation that other workers have. However, they also face the same problems with workers’ compensation that other industries experience.

Examples of the hardships many people face include denied claims, workplace harassment and retaliation or termination for filing a compensation claim. An attorney can help you address denied claims and any other obstacle that stand between you and the injury compensation you are due. The steadfast protection of your rights and your career are also important benefits of consulting with a lawyer.
