A man has been killed in a car accident in Iowa, and it underscores the need for stop signs to control traffic. Reports indicate that there were not any such signs at the intersection where the wreck occurred. It was a rural intersection that likely does not see heavy traffic loads, but all it takes is two vehicles for a fatal crash.
The wreck occurred right around 4:33 in the afternoon on Monday, Aug. 15. It happened at the intersection where 320th Street crosses with Langley Avenue. That information comes from the Iowa State Patrol.
Per the State Patrol, a 19-year-old man was driving down Langely Avenue, heading north. He was driving a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix. At the same time, a 63-year-old man and a 61-year-old woman were coming down 320th Street. They were heading west, and they were driving a 2009 Dodge pickup truck.
When they reached the intersection, the Grand Prix impacted the driver’s side of the truck. Both cars skidded to a stop in the intersection’s northwest corner.
The driver of the pickup truck — the 63-year-old man — passed away after arriving at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, which is located in Des Moines. His injuries were bad enough that emergency crews had to airlift him from the scene.
Both the woman and the younger man also suffered injuries in the crash. Though their exact conditions were not reported, emergency crews did take them to Stewart Memorial Community Hospital, which is over in Lake City.
